Explore textiles from Laos

on MOM and at Maison & Objet March 2022

After a successful pop-up exhibition at Maison & Objet in September 2021, in which 2 companies from Laos participated, 2 more textile manufacturers have been preparing for the trade fair in 2022. And while the exhibition is postponed to March 24-28, 2022, the new collections can already be explored on M&O’s online platform MOM. Check out the beautifully embellished textiles of Her Works, and the contempo screen prints on hemp by Passa Paa. Exporters Ock Pop Tok and Tai Baan Crafts have also added product ranges to their offer.

4 textile manufacturers from Laos are now ready for exporting to the European market. They all have attractive product ranges that meet EU standards, suitable shipping options for either importers or smaller retailers.

  • Her Works specializes in handmade and embellished textiles. They work with various ethnic groups across Laos, making use of the beautiful craftsmanship available. Their collection of home textiles includes fabric made on a backstrap loom, with small glass beads woven into the material, as well as hand embroidered cushion covers with fringes, pompoms and binding.

  • Passa Paa has created a range of handwoven natural hemp cushion covers with screen printed and handstitched applique work. They take inspiration from traditional patterns and techniques from the Hmong ethnic group, and collaborate with these artisans in their workshop.

  • Tai Baan Crafts launched their collection of ‘modern rustic’ cotton scarves and wraps at the pop-up exhibition in September 2021. Building on the success of the beautifully textured and naturally dyed fabrics, they have been developing a new range of throws with a stunning hand stitched detail.

  • Ock Pop Tok participated in M&O in September, too, and attracted buyers with their collection of floor rugs and cushion covers made using the tapestry technique. To this collection, they are now adding new colourways, a dark fond with intense colours to match with interior trends for the home. They have also developed a range of cushion covers and throws in subtle stripes dyed with natural colours.

All product ranges by the 4 companies from Laos can be found on M&O's MOM platform. A selection of products will be showcased in the CBI pop-up exhibition at Maison & Objet, which will be hosted by Craftscurator and colleagues. The sales and marketing teams of the companies will be available for enquiries (by e-mail, whatsapp or zoom) now, during and after M&O, and they hope to be able to meet buyers in person later in 2022.

In 2019, CBI launched new export coaching programmes in 5 countries, in which over 80 small and medium sized businesses are participating. These aspiring exporters from Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Indonesia are all preparing for targeting the European home decoration and home textiles market. Training and coaching usually takes place in the country, but due to Covid most of the workshops have taken place online. Craftscurator is the coach for 11 companies from Laos, all specializing in textiles.

The CBI pop-up exhibition can be found in Hall 5A Unique & Eclectic stand O44 - P43 at Maison & Objet in Parc des Expositions in Paris France from March 24-28, 2022. New collections of exporters from Cambodia, Bangladesh and Myanmar can also be found in the booth.
